In this reimagined version of Dylan Thomas's “play for voices”, the cast brings to life the eccentric and unorthodox people who live under the abundance of the milkwood trees in the tiny fictional town in Wales of Llareggub. Using only their body-language, faces, and voices; each actor portrays a number of villagers, as we follow them from the depths of their dreams, into the light of dawn and on through a typical day of these off-beat examples of humanity.
Victorian inspired shirts in various colours draw the attention to the actors' upper bodies. The design is meant to evoke working-class clothing, as those that could be found in a small, old fishing town while maintaining the timing ambiguous. The identically-constructed, handmade garments provide a sense of uniformity as the actors slide from one character to another in. Yet, a sense of individuality is retained thanks to the various colours: each character is unique, even if they all contribute to the whole that is the town of Llareggub.
